Scopely: Out With The Bacon, In With The Cash
Scopely, the Los Angeles developer of game monetization services, told its supporters today that it will pay $5,000 in cash to anyone who refers job candidates that result in a hire for the company. The firm--billing the effort "Operation Haystack"--is one of many companies in the area which have been fighting for talent, particularly in the engineering area. The new offer from Scopely comes a couple of years after the firm's last, recruitment push, which offered not just cash, but cash wrapped in bacon. It looks like this new offer is a bit less than its last recruiting push (and less greasy).
The firm had a number of positions listed on its recruiting site, ranging from mobile (Android, iOS) engineers to a product manager. Companies like Scopely usually prefer to get internal referrals for candidates, rather than paying recruiting firms, which usually charge a much larger percentage of a candidate's first year salary.
Scopely is backed by Anthem Venture Partners, The Chernin Group, Greycroft Venture Partners and New Enterprise Associates (NEA), along with a very long list of local angel investors.
