Scopely Raises $8.5M
It looks like all that bacon paid off. Los Angeles-based Scopely, the startup co-founded by Eytan Elbaz, Eytan Elbaz, Walter Driver and Ankur Bulsara, which is developing social and mobile games, said this morning that it has raised $8.5M in a new, seed financing round, from Anthem Venture Partners, The Chernin Group, Greycroft Venture Partners and New Enterprise Associates (NEA), as well as angels. The firm--best known until now for its effort to recruit employees with the promise of $11,000 wrapped in bacon, free beer, and more--said that the funding also included a long list of angels, including Terry Semel (Yahoo), Brian Lee (ShoeDazzle, Honest Company), Michael Lazerow (Buddy Media), Auren Hoffman (Rapleaf), Red Swan Ventures, Mark Mullen (Double M Capital), Richard Wolpert (Amplify), David Cohen (TechStars), David Tisch (TechStars NY), Evan Rifkin (Burstly), Sands Capital, Gil Elbaz, Kelly Perdew, and Felicis Ventures. Scopely said it is developing mobile and social applications, including the Buddies franchise of multiplayer games. More information »
