Ring Cameras Used To Taunt Police, Livestream Swatting
Doorbell cameras built by Los Angeles-based Ring, now part of Amazon, were used in a spree of swatting attacks, where two men placed hoax calls to police departments--and used compromised, Ring cameras to taunt police. According to reports, the swatting occurred the week of November 7, 2020, after two alleged swatters compromised the Yahoo Mail accounts of the owners of 12 Ring cameras. A Grand Jury indicted two men for the swatting attacks, which included swatting in West Covina, where the complaint alleges the two used a Ring doorbell camera to "verbally threaten and taunt West Covina Police officers who responded to the reported incident."
