USC Gets $22M From Venture Capitalist

Los Angeles-based USC announced that Mark A. Stevens, a general partner at the venture capital firm Sequoia Capital, and his wife Mary have given $22M to the school--the second largest in the USC Viterbi Engineering School's fundraising initiative. The gifts follows Andrew and Erna Viterbi's $52M gift in March which renamed the school the USC Viterbi Engineering school. Stevens' gift will be used to create an institute to commercialize faculty innovations and teach students the fundamentals of the commercialization process. The engineering school institution will collaborate with USC's Marshall School of Business and the USC Law School to create an academic program focused on technology commercialization. Stevens is a trustee and a member of USC's Viterbi School Board of Councilors, and has served on numerous boards including NVIDIA, BillPoint, Commquest, MP3.com, Quicklogic, Documentum, Quickturn, and Terayon.
