UC San Diego Spinout Gets $15M From Bill Gates
A startup which is based on research conducted at the University of California, San Diego has scored $15M in a Series A funding. Echodyne Corp., which was co-founded by Tom Driscoll, a former University of California at San Diego researcher. Echodyne said it is developing radar products developed on metamaterials technology invented through a collaboration with Intellectual Ventures, Duke University and the University of California at San Diego. The funding round was led by Bill Gates and Madrona Venture Group, and also included Vulcan Capital, Lux Capital, The Kresge Foundation, and others.
