Tongal To Crowdsource Feature Film
Los Angeles-based video crowdsourcing site Tongal is making a big move into feature films, saying yesterday that it has begun crowdsourcing a documentary, feature film on the site. The company--which has had a lot of success using its crowdsourcing process and technology for commercials--said it has launched the documentary feature film effort in partnership with Spitfire PIctures, the company behind such films as Undefeated, Foo Fighters: Back and Forth, and Martin Scorsese's music documentary films No Direction Home: Bob Dylan and George Harrison: Living In The Material World.
Tongal, which is backed by Insight Partners, has created a profitable business producing commercials for such marquee clients as Procter & Gamble, McDonald's, Google, General Electric, LEGO, Ford, NASA and Microsoft. The company's platform has been used to create many advertising campaigns, including those in the Super Bowl. The move into feature films is a major step for the company's aspirations, and will follow a similar staged process inviting ideas, a pitch/storyboard, and then a chance to create a "sizzle reel", a production of a director's cut, and then funding to complete the documentary.
