Tech Firm Ties With Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers are announcing a deal today with Taiwanese PC maker MicroStar International--which has its U.S. headquarters in the City of Industry--which will include both branding of a Dodgers limited-edition PC netbook, plus usage of MSI's PCs throughout the Dodgers operation. Financial details of the deal are not being disclosed, however, MSI will be selling the Dodgers limited-edition PC and Netbook through retailer La Curacao, which operates departments stores in Southern California and Arizona. MSI--which through a spokesperson said considers the Dodgers its "home team" due to its office in the City of Industry--said it is the first high tech company to tie with a L.A. area sports team. Los Angeles, unlike sports teams in San Francisco, San Diego, and Seattle, does not have any high tech sponsors of its sports teams or venues. In addition to the Dodgers branded hardware, MSI and the Dodgers said the PC will receive 200 of MSI's all-in-one Wind Top PCs, netbooks for use within its operations by players and staff. The City of Industry, which is a suburb of Los Angeles, is known for its strong ties to Taiwanese electronics firms, many of whom have their North American headquarters in the city. Among other major technology firms in the city are electronics retailer NewEgg.
