Qualcomm Takes Rapid Charge Technology To Japan
San Diego-based Qualcomm said yesterday that it has inked a partnership with NTT DOCOMO, to extend its quick charging technology to Japan. According to Qualcomm, DOCOMO has adopted its Quick Charge 2.0 technology into a line of smartphones, tablets, and power adapters which are expected to ship this summer. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Qualcomms said its Quick Charge 2.0 technology allows devices to charge up to 75 percent faster than products which do not use the technology. Qualcomm's technology had initially been targeted at smartphones and tablets, however, the company said it recently increased the number of watts which can be delivered using its technology to 60 watts, which allows for the charging of notebooks, as well.
