Qualcomm Buys Mobile Content Delivery Software Firm for $57M

San Diego-based Qualcomm said today that it is acquiring ELATA, a UK-based developer of mobile content delivery software. The deal is worth $57M in cash, and adds ELATA's wireless content delivery system to its line of wireless data solutions and services. ELATA provides management and delivery of rich wireless content, providing content services across a variety of device platforms. The company's service allows for management of ringtones, wallpapers, BREW, Java, streaming, and other cell phone features. Qualcomm said that the acquisition would help support the delivery of content while maintaining backwards compatibility, meet the needs of operators worldwide, and would bring new value-added services to the market.
