PopID Launches Facial Recognition Payments In Japan
Pasadena-based PopID, a company developing payment systems which use facial recognition for payments, says it is in an effort with Japan Computer Vision (a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp) and Wendy's First Kitchen to deploy its payment systems in the country of Japan. According to the companies, Wendy's First Kitchen, a QSR chain in Japan, will accept payment using PopPay's payments systems at locations in Akasaka Mitsuke, Shibuya Center, and Jiyugaoka. Financial details of the deal were not announced. The companies said Wendy's First Kitchen customers will be able to link their face to a credit card or First Kitchen prepaid card and then pay by simply smiling at a camera-equipped tablet connected to a self-ordering kiosk.
