Openfilm To Offer Up Film Financing
Los Angeles-based Openfilm, an online web community focused on independent filmmakers, said yesterday that it will award $1 million to independent filmmakers who submit films on the website. According to the site, it is looking to award that million dollars to independent filmmakers over the next 20 months, to be selected by a stable of well known actors, writers, directors, and producers. The site said that its advisory board includes James Caan, Scott Caan, Robert Duvall, and Mark Rydell, who will be involved online in selecting films and judging submissions, and participating in online chats with filmmakers. The site is looking to apply web technology to the business of film development, and said it now has over 300,000 unique visitors per month and over 5,000 films in its online library of films. Among other projects, the site said that filmmakers on the site can compete to win a quarterly management and financing package to produce a feature length film
