NantWorks, JAKKS Joint Venture Shows Disney-Branded Toys
DreamPlay Toys, the joint venture between NantWorks, the technology incubator and development organization run by billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong, and JAKKS Pacific, announced their first products at the Consumer Electronics Show Tuesday in Las Vegas. The companies said they have debuted a line of Disney-branded DreamPlay products, which incorporate technology from NantWorks to provide 3D object recognition, speech, voice, and more. DreamPlay Toys and JAKKS Pacific are planning to launch the line of toys in Fall of 2013 in the U.S., with international rollout in 2014. Financial details of the deals between Disney, DreamPlay Toys and JAKKS have not been announced. The new toys revolve around using a smart phone or tablet to allow users to link to physical products in an interactive way.
