MySpace Taps Google For Gears Technology
Los Angeles-based social networking web site MySpace said today that it has linked into search engine firm Google by using the firm's Google Gears software for its email services. MySpace said it has enhanced MySpace mail using Google Gears, which is Google's open source project that adds new features into web browsers. Gears adds offline storage and database functionality into Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer. MySpace said the install is the largest third-party implementation of Gears. MySpace said the use of the software allows it to add searching via keywords and sorting of email, without requiring the site to add server resources.
