Machinima Lays Off Most Employees, Ceases Operations, Say Reports
Machinima, which had been the poster child for Southern California's multi-channel-network (MCN) boom, has laid off most of its employees and ceased its operations, according to reports. The shutdown comes after a reorganization of the digital properties of AT&T, as well as its Otter Media subsidiary. Machinima had been acquired by Warner Bros. in 2016, in a deal then reported as worth less than $100M. Machinima first started developing its gaming-related content back around 2008, and helped usher in a healthy investment market for multi-channel-networks, companies which aggregated multiple YouTube creators and channels into a single media company.
