Google Lunar XPRIZE Names Five Remaining Teams, Hands Out $1M
Los Angeles-based XPRIZE and Google announced the fiveremaining teams in the Google Lunar XPRIZE effort on Tuesday, saying that it will split $1M among those teams, as they move forward to launching their unmanned spacecraft to the moon. Google said that SpaceIL (Israel), Moon Express (USA), Synergy Moon (international), TeamIndus (India) and HAKUTO (Japan) have all signed verified launch contracts to land their unmanned spacecraft on the surface of the Moon. To make it to the next step in the $30M contest, those teams must launch their vehicles into space by December 31, 2017.
