Evolver Launches Avatar Site
Aliso Viejo-based Evolver, a firm developing avatar creation technology, launched an alpha of its web site this week, focused on helping consumers create their own virtual avatars. Evolver is headed by former Vicon Motion Capture CEO Brian Nilles, who said the company is looking to help make high quality, 3D human modeling available to pre-teen level consumers. The site allows users to create what Nilles says are "breathtakingly accurate" versions of users, or to create fantasy characters. The tool is a preview to launching avatars created on the site into virtual worlds, games, mobile applications, social media, and other applications. The firm said it is backed by venture capital, but has not disclosed its backers.
