DTS Licenses Play-Fi To Core Brands
Calabasas-based audio technology provider DTS has licensed out its Play-Fi, wireless whole home audio streaming technology to consumer electronics company Core Brands, the two said Thursday. According to the two, Core Brands, a subsidiary of Nortek, will use the DTS Play-Fi technology to add wireless music streaming to its Core Brands speaker product lines. Financial details of the deal were not announced. The DTS Play-Fi devices are an integrated, wireless speaker system and software which allow users to stream audio from their smartphone, tablet, or the Internet. DTS offers the product to consumers, but has primarily been seeking to license out the technology to other consumer electronics manufacturers who want to offer up their own, whole-home, WiFi music streaming products. The deal with Core Brands appears to be one of the first licensing deals for DTS and its Play-Fi technology. The DTS Play-Fi system is a direct competitor to similar, whole home music streaming devices from Sonos and others.
