Cabin Revamps Bus Rides From LA To San Francisco
Cabin, the startup which has been running overnight trips on luxury buses between Los Angeles and San Francisco--aiming at digitally connected, tech-savvy consumers looking to move between the technology hubs--has re-launched its service, saying that it has "completely re-engineered" its buses and services. According to Cabin, its new "Cabin G2" buses include 54 percent larger cabins than its first generation fleet, and a fancy "bump cancellation system" which reduces the bumpiness of a passenger's ride, in addition to scaling back on some of the social features on the bus. According to Cabin, its new "Bump Cancelation System" focuses on what it euphemistically refers to as "road turbulence", using sensors, electric motors, and control algorithms to move a guest's bed up or down to help control vibration. The company said that "road turbulence" was a frequent guest complaint on its first pilot of its service, which runs between Santa Monica and San Francisco. The company has not been running trips for at least six months as it has been working on the improvements to its buses. Cabin also has scaled back some of the more social features--lounge music and a communal meeting area for guests--saying that its guests really just wanted to do one thing--sleep.
