Aerovironment Passed Over For DARPA Project

Simi Valley-based unmanned aerial vehicle developer Aerovironment said Tuesday that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), has decided not to go forward with a Phase III contract with the company. According to Aerovironment, DARPA, which had funded both a Phase I and II program to develop an unmanned aircraft system, did not select the company for the Phase III contract as part of the DARPA Tern program. DARPA's TERN (Tactically Exploitative Reconnaissance Node) had been intended to act as a combined strike and surveillance system for ships, with the robotic craft flying up to 900 miles from Navy ships on missions.
